    Visceral Manipulation

Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling (Back To Top)

You are what you eat. I believe in starting with the basics. The pillars of good health are: clean water, a healthy diet, and adequate exercise. In many cases simply getting these three factors on track will rebalance the system and restore health. The present fast-paced lifestyle that many of us maintain can become an overwhelming burden on the body. Learning to de-stress your life and rediscover laughter and the things that bring you joy become crucial to staying healthy.

Botanical Medicines and Nutritional Supplements (Back To Top)

I use standardized extracts of herbs, as well as professional grade nutritional supplements targeting the specific areas that need support. There is extensive scientific research available that supports the use of botanical extracts and/or specific nutrients as therapies for a wide variety of common health concerns. In many instances, research has shown us that certain herbal or nutrient products can manage symptoms to an equal or greater degree than a pharmaceutical, with the added benefit of little to no side effects being reported.

    Hydrotherapy (Back To Top)

Water has historically been used in many different cultures as a tool to help the human body heal from injuries and fight off illness both acute and chronic. Hydrotherapy is the use of hot or cold water either as a bath or compress. Contrasting hot and cold applications have the ability to stimulate tissue healing, and increase the immune response. It is a useful treatment for everything from the common cold, to sprains or strains, to chronic viral infections (HIV, Hepatitis C), to cancer. Experience the healing properties of water!

    Homeopathy (Back To Top)

This gentle yet effective system of medicine is more than 200 years old and is based on the principle that Like cures Like. Homeopathic medicines are very small doses of natural substances that can stimulate the body's self-healing response without side effects. Some conditions for which conventional medicine has no effective treatments will respond well to homeopathy.

    Counseling Therapy (Back To Top)

I have great faith in the art of listening. Great comfort can be found in sharing your story with another, and truly feeling heard. As a counselor, I offer a safe, non-judgmental environment for you to decompress and share whatever weighs on your heart or mind. I provide tools and skills to help you manage life’s ups and downs. I have experience managing depression, anxiety, panic disorder, eating disorders, and survivors of sexual abuse to name a few. I offer the added benefit of incorporating SomatoEmotional Release techniques, which allows you to access and release emotional holding patterns in your physical body. For a more in depth description of this technique please see the Craniosacral Therapy section.

    Craniosacral Therapy (Back To Top)

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique of evaluating and treating the craniosacral and fascial systems of the body. The craniosacral system includes the membranes and the fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord, while the fascial system includes the layers of fibrous connective tissue between the skin and the underlying muscle and bone. CST utilizes your body’s innate ability to rebalance and release restriction. A CST therapist uses a light touch to assess the intrinsic cranial and spinal bone movements. Any number of things can produce restrictions in this movement: birth trauma, falls, injuries, infections, repetitive use, sprains/strains to name a few. CST helps to reestablish normal, healthy movement which allows energy to flow freely and tissues to function properly.

CST can be of therapeutic benefit for the following conditions:

    • Migraine Headaches
    • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
    • Motor-Coordination Impairments
    • Colic
    • Autism
    • Central Nervous System Disorders
    • Orthopedic Problems
    • Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
    • Scoliosis
    • Infantile Disorders
    • Learning Disabilities
    • Chronic Fatigue
    • Emotional Difficulties
    • Stress and Tension-Related Problems
    • Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
    • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
    • Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
    • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
    • Post-Surgical Dysfunction

Somatoemotional Release Techniques (Back To Top)

Somatoemotional Release techniques (SER) allow the therapist to access the emotional memory of the physical body. We have all experienced the muscular tension that tends to accompany nervousness and anxiety. A similar analogy can be applied to other strong emotions that we feel, and the lasting effect they can have on our physical bodies. The body’s fascial system is also an emotional memory bank. Intense emotional experiences, most commonly negative, can produce tension and holding patterns in the fascial system. These tension patterns, also known as energy cysts, are linked to the emotions and the memory of that experience. This is the deepest layer at which a life trauma can affect an individual. Sometimes even after years of talk therapy an individual will not experience complete recovery from a trauma until the memory stored in the body’s facial system can be rebalanced and released. SER helps you as the client to tune into your body and discover the holding patterns you may have been carrying with you for years. By increasing your awareness and working through any memories that surface, a therapist can help you to release the trauma and remove the blockage to your system. The benefit of combining these techniques with counseling therapy is that as body memory is released, and emotions resurface it is useful and important to have a therapist available should you need help managing the changes that may take place.

    Visceral Manipulation (Back To Top)

Visceral Manipulation was developed by French Osteopath, Jean-Pierre Barral. At optimal health, the relationship between the organs (viscera) and structures of the body (muscles, membranes, fasciae and bones) remains stable despite the body’s endless varieties of motion. But when one organ can’t move in harmony with its surrounding viscera due to abnormal tone, adhesions or displacement, it works against all the body’s organs and structures. This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body is forced to move around. That chronic irritation, in turn, paves the way for disease and dysfunction.

Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle hands-on therapy that works through the body’s visceral system (the heart, liver, intestines and other internal organs) to locate and alleviate these abnormal points of tension throughout the body.

VM employs specifically placed manual forces that work to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. Trained practitioners use the rhythmic motions of the visceral system to evaluate how abnormal forces interplay, overlap and affect the normal body forces at work. These gentle manipulations can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.
